Transferring Employees

Retirement

Contact the Benefits, Compensation, and Staffing Branch as soon as possible if you were in the process of making or recently completed a military deposit or civilian deposit/redeposit into the retirement system prior to your transfer.

Health Insurance

Upon your move from one employing office to another, your health insurance enrollment continues without interruption as long as you do not have a break in service of more than three calendar days. You are permitted to change to another health insurance plan based on your transfer if you are enrolled in an HMO and relocated outside the HMO's service area.

Dental / Vision Insurance

Contact BENEFEDS at (877) 888 - 3337 to report your new agency/payroll office information if you are enrolled in FEDVIP dental and/or vision insurance.

Life Insurance

Your new agency will continue your life insurance coverage upon your transfer.

You are liable for all Federal Employees’ Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) premiums for any period during which you were insured even if premiums were not initially withheld. You should report any benefits related errors to the Benefits Service Center immediately.

Thrift Savings Plan (TSP)

Notify your new personnel/payroll office if you have been contributing to TSP, particularly if you contribute to the Roth TSP as this information does not always transfer from your prior agency. This will help ensure that your contributions, and more importantly, any loan payments can continue without interruption.

Annual / Sick Leave

Your annual and sick leave balances will be added to your leave account when we receive your leave records from your previous agency. If you prefer, you can give the Benefits, Compensation, and Staffing Branch (BCSB) a copy of your final Earnings and Leave Statement from your previous agency. The BCSB will add your leave balances to your account. Once the official leave record is received from your previous agency, balances will be compared and any needed adjustments will be made.

Deductions / Allotments

Review the first Earnings and Leave Statement you receive from your new agency to ensure the correct deductions are being taken from your salary. This is particularly important if you were paying a Thrift Savings Plan loan or child support.

Flexible Spending Account(s)

You must contact FSAFEDS directly at (877) 372 - 3337 to continue your existing account(s) deductions through your new payroll office.

Long-Term Care

You must complete a Billing Change Form to continue existing Federal Long-Term Care Insurance Program premium payments via payroll deduction. Call Long-Term care Partners at (800) 582 - 3337 to get the form.

Beneficiary Designation

With the exception of the SF 1152, Designation of Beneficiary for Unpaid Compensation, all valid beneficiary forms on file remain valid. Any previously completed SF 1152 on file is no longer valid once you transfer to a new department or agency. If you choose to follow the Order of Precedence for unpaid compensation purposes, a new SF 1152 is not needed. You will need to complete a new SF 1152 and submit it to one of the addresses below if you do not want your unpaid compensation to pay out in accordance with the order of precedence:
